Dear Fellow NWC Members:

What an extraordinary year this has been!   First of all, thank you for another year of volunteer work and generous support that combine to make the NWC an integral part of our Norwich Community.   We are particularly grateful that over the last two months - as we switched up our Spring Gala to move it entirely online - that you have pivoted with us, sheltered in place, and supported our fundraising remotely!  Even in this challenging time, our long-standing priorities continue:  (1) maintaining our Community Project Grant Program to assist Community organizations, clubs, and programs, (2) supporting a number of students who continue to need scholarship funds for higher education, and (3) providing social and gathering opportunities for our community and our membership.

Community Project Grant Program

After an extraordinary pivot to make our 2020 Spring Gala an online only event, we are delighted to report that we raised close to $35,000 to support our Community Project Grant Program.  This is very close to the amount we have raised annually over the past 5 years!  Thank you all!  Our Community Project Grant Program is accepting applications for funding up until May 8th this year, and you can access the application online here.   We all expect those funds will be very much needed in the next year.

Scholarship Funding Program

The NWC is one of Vermont’s largest charitable providers of scholarship funds to students.    Despite the uncertainties of the next academic year due to the COVID-19 epidemic, we are pleased to announce that in May we awarded $34,000 to 14 Norwich students in anticipation of the 2020-21 Academic Year.  These scholarship funds came from our 2019 Fall and Spring Nearly New Sales and from particularly generous donations by members and other supporters.

However, the cancellation of our May 2020 Nearly New Sale due to the COVID-19 restrictions means that the funds available for next year’s Scholarship will be severely diminished.   We have not made decisions about the Fall sale, but we are concerned about our ability to support students in 2021-22.

Social and Gathering Opportunities

Our membership has grown this year, and we thank you.   We have introduced some new programs (Women, Wine and Wisdom), and have continued others like our Coffee and Conversation, the Author Luncheon in February, our Fall Gathering and Holiday Parties, and our Summer Concert Series.  Of course, these all came to an abrupt halt in March with the social distancing restrictions.  Due to these restrictions, we have made the difficult decision not to hold our Annual meeting in June – but we will continue to evaluate the situation as we move through the summer and fall with the health of our members foremost in our mind.  We remain hopeful!

The Norwich Women’s Club is an all-volunteer organization, and we could not function without our board.  To the women who have volunteered so many hours of their time this year to make sure NWC events, outreach, membership, bookkeeping, publicity, fundraising and so much more run smoothly: thank you.

SO, what can you do to continue to help?

First and foremost, your membership for next year is critical to our efforts, and this is the time to renew.    You can do this on our website at the Join, Renew, Donate page.

Any additional funds you can donate to help us with our programs this year would be exceptionally welcome.  Due to the cancellation of the Spring Nearly New Sale our Scholarship funds particularly need bolstering this year.

And just as importantly, we could use your time and talent!  We have volunteer roles that take skills which we know many of you may have – and which can be tailored to the time you have available.   Just shoot me an email at to begin the conversation.

Again, thank you!  We believe we will all be stronger after this – as a community, and as members of the NWC.
